Must Have Christmas Toys Of Christmas Past

Childhood memories of Christmas morning are filled with remembrances of storming down the stairs to find out what Christmas gifts and toys had been left under the tree. Every year, there were a few select Christmas toys that had made their way up the top of just about every kid's list of must have Christmas toys. As adults, it can even be a bit embarrassing to remember how much we fretted over getting our hands on these must have Christmas toys and how we simply had to have them on Christmas morning.

Take a trip down Christmas morning memory lane and take a look at this collection of must have Christmas toys from the past. If you were a child of the 1980's or 1990's you are going to find at least one toy from your past that you thought was a must have Christmas toy.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Christmas Toys

They were heroes on the half shell! If you consider yourself to be a child of the eighties, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may have been becoming the big craze just as you were growing out of toys. I was was born in 1976, and I didn't play with them much. However, my sister was two years younger and was sure to have the turtles on the top of her must have Christmas toy list for a few years.

Unlike so many of the big toy crazes in the 1980's this was one that was mostly aimed at boys. Of course, there were other boy toys in the 1980's that made it big - He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers - but most of the real big crazes were dolls aimed at girls. They would always have a boy doll on the range so that brothers could get something too but mostly My Little Pony, Cabbage Patch and that sort of thing were for the girl audience.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles went straight for the boys with their smart mouth, butt kicking, pizza eating approach to being super heroes Also, possibly the first big must have Christmas toy craze of the Nintendo generation, the turtles had a must own Nintendo game to go with the normal action figures, Saturday morning cartoon and other items.

There was always one last must have Christmas toy from the TMNT stable to slip into the stocking on Christmas Eve.

My Little Pony Christmas Toys

If the Mutant Turtles were for the boys, then there was no question that My Little Pony toys were for the girls! There couldn't have been many little girls in mid to late 1980's America that didn't own at least one My Little Pony doll. With the ponies of the top of many must have Christmas toy lists, they probably had more than one, actually.

Really, it would have been difficult for the company not to hit it big with My Little Pony. Horses and ponies are always going to get a reaction from most little girls. When added into the collectable toy world of the 1980's it was no wonder that so many little girls made sure Santa knew what was top of their must have Christmas toy list.

Just like with so many 1980's toys, My Little Ponies had bed sheets, dolls, cereal and a Saturday morning cartoon series. When you got bored with normal My Little Pony dolls, they put wings on a few and made them flying ponies. Suddenly, they are must have Christmas toys all over again.

Without a doubt, many a parent was up late on Christmas Eve putting together this My Little Pony Dream Castle.
