Must Have Christmas Toys Of Christmas Past

Childhood memories of Christmas morning are filled with remembrances of storming down the stairs to find out what Christmas gifts and toys had been left under the tree. Every year, there were a few select Christmas toys that had made their way up the top of just about every kid's list of must have Christmas toys. As adults, it can even be a bit embarrassing to remember how much we fretted over getting our hands on these must have Christmas toys and how we simply had to have them on Christmas morning.

Take a trip down Christmas morning memory lane and take a look at this collection of must have Christmas toys from the past. If you were a child of the 1980's or 1990's you are going to find at least one toy from your past that you thought was a must have Christmas toy.

Easy Bake Oven Christmas Toys

Ah, the Easy Bake Oven. As must have Christmas toys go, this one was at least useful in that it aimed to teach a life skill. After all, if you can bake a tiny single serving cake with a light bulb there is no reason you won't be the next Julia Child. You just had to be careful you didn't use too strong a light bulb though or you could end up setting that Easy Bake Oven on fire.

These days, it would be hard to imagine young girls being left alone to play with anything hot enough to actual bake but it was good fun and that is why they were must have Christmas toys. A ton if experimentation went of with those toy ovens. Some of it was good and some of it involved learning that the little metal baking tins didn't do very well in the microwave. Either way it was about learning and every now and then producing something that could actually be eaten.

The Easy Bake Oven folks, even tried to move on with the times a bit as the decade moved on and made an Easy Bake Mini Wave oven. Really, it was just the same toy but looked a bit like a microwave on the outside.

Care Bears Christmas Toys

The 1980's must have been the decade where the toy companies figured out that the more toys there were in one range the more they would sell. Toys such as the Care Bears ended up on the list of must have Christmas toys time and time again because no matter how many you bought, there was always going to be a new Care Bear to buy. When they ran out of new Care Bears to sell, the company moved on to making and marketing Care Bear Cousins just so that there would be something new for kids to put on their must have Christmas toy list.

Of course, there was also various different versions of the same Care bear to be bought. You could buy the plush version of the Care Bear or the small hard plastic version, just to name two.

The Care Bear toy empire went on for years with a successful Saturday morning cartoon series stoking the flames. The Care Bear Movie also did the trick and was actually pretty seriously dark and scary for a cartoon movie aimed at pretty young kids.
